Membership FAQs

In our membership application form we will ask you a series of intake questions regarding your creative project, practice, and fabrication experience. Additionally, we will ask you to provide the following information:

  • Contact info (for yourself and all team members)
  • Professional bio
  • Name and contact info of 2 academic and/or professional references
  • a URL link to your CV or resume
  • a URL link to your portfolio (Experimental Track applicants only)
  • a URL link to your business model Canvas (Start-up Track applicants only)
  • Project timeline

Once your membership application is accepted, you’re welcome to be part of our space for as long as you need to achieve your project goals. While we operate on a semester-based calendar, this does not mean your membership is limited to just one semester. Instead, we have regular check-ins each semester where you can share updates on your progress and discuss your membership timeline. Some members stay at the Design Fabrication Zone for just a few semesters, while others have been part of our space for over five years! Our goal is to support your work for as long as it makes sense for you and your project.

The best way to learn more about membership at the Design Fabrication Zone is to email us. If you prefer an in-person visit, join us for our monthly Open Shop nights. These events are a great opportunity to explore our space, see our facilities in action, and chat with a team member to determine if membership is the right fit for you.
